What is the Love Letter Initiative?
The Love Letter Initiative is an endeavor to encourage women facing hard seasons, through thoughtfully curated gift boxes and hand-written letters. In 2018, we hosted the first Love Letter Initiative, sending 80 packages to women facing the journey of infertility. We hope to make Love Letters an annual event, focusing on a different group of ladies each year. Each box is packaged with gifts (in partnership with other small businesses) that are meaningful to women of any age, and letters of care that are written and mailed by our audience.
Learn about the 2019 Initiative!
This year, we are focusing the Love Letter Initiative on ladies who, since last Mother’s Day, have suffered the death of a child. It’s hard to imagine a loss more devastating and potentially isolating. In the upcoming Mother’s and Father’s Day season, we want to surround the mother who has suffered this loss with love, care and support. Through a thoughtfully curated box of gifts and letters, we hope to remind each precious woman that she is not forgotten - and neither is her child.
Ways to be involved
Refer a Friend + Be a Care Coordinator
Do you know a lady who would be blessed by a gift box? Use the button below to submit the name and address of a friend who has lost a child since last Mother’s Day (please submit one name at a time). We wish that we could ship boxes internationally, but due to the high cost of shipping, we can only send boxes to U.S. addresses. Please submit gift recipient names by Saturday, April 20.
You will become the “Care Coordinator” for each friend you refer to receive a box. As a Care Coordinator, you will need to:
Reach out to friends of the lady whose name you submitted, and ask them to write a note or letter of encouragement to her.
Collect these letters and mail them to Daughters of Promise (in one packet) by May 11. We will wrap the packet of letters with ribbon and add them to her gift box.
Once we’ve received your referral of a friend to receive a gift box, we will email you with more details about how to proceed.
Your monetary gift will help cover the cost of shipping - a minimum cost of $1500 is expected. To donate, use the button below. Or, mail a check, earmarked for the Love Letter Initiative to Daughters of Promise, P.O. Box, 189, South Boston, VA, 24592.
Partner in gift-giving
Do you have a product that would be of special encouragement to a mother grieving the death of a child? We invite small businesses to partner with us by donating product to be included. For more information, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Send a letter
If you don’t have a friend to recommend as a gift recipient, you can still be involved! Write a note of encouragement that would be appropriate for any mother who has lost a child, and send it to Daughters of Promise (address above). We will add it to the gift box of one of the recipients. Even if you don’t know the lady that will get your letter, God does! Your words of care are a gift.
